Which was read, and referred to Senators Stump, Dennis,
Hill, Hepbron and Lee.

Mr. Cooper presented the petition of Thomas T. Sword,
Hugh Roberts and 30 others, citizens of Baltimore City,
against the passage of a Local Option Law.

Which was read, and referred to the Committee on Tem-
perance.

On motion by Mr. Miller, it was

Ordered, That when the Senate adjourns to-day, it stand
adjourned until 11 o'clock to-morrow.

On motion by Mr. Sulivane,

Leave was granted to the Committee on Judicial Proceed-
ings to introduce a bill to be entitled an Act to conform the
Code of Public General Laws to the Constitution of the Uni-
ted States, by striking out the word "white" wherever the
same occurs, in article thirteen of said Code, title "Bastardy
and Fornication," and in all other articles thereof.

The Hon. E. C. Hollyday, Secretary of State, appeared and
delivered a communication from the Executive, endorsed
"Executive business."

On motion by Mr. Miller,

Leave was granted to the Committee on Agriculture to in-
troduce a bill to be entitled an Act to amend the Act of
1872, Chapter 244, entitled an Act to authorize the Gov-
ernor to appoint weighers of grain, so as to make the weigh-
ing of grain optional with the owners thereof.

On motion by Mr. Stump,

Leave was granted to the Committee on Judicial Proceed-
ing to introduce a bill to be entitled an Act to repeal Section
173, of Article 30 of the Code of Public General Laws, enti-
tled "Crimes and Punishments," sub-title "Rogues and
Vagabonds," and to re-enact the same with the addition of
the word "Storehouse."

On motion by Mr. Humphreys,

Leave was granted to the Committee on Finance to intro-
duce a bill to be entitled an Act for the relief of Jesse Davis,

of Wicomico County.

Mr. Wilson, from the Committee on Judicial Proceedings,
reported favorably,

Senate bill entitled an Act to repeal Section 44, of Article

24, of the Code of Public General Laws, entitled "Convey-
