Mr. Cooper presented the following memorial and series of
resolutions from the Methodist Episcopal Clergy of Baltimore
City.

To the Honorable,

the Senate of Maryland :

The undersigned committee, beg leave to present to your
Honorable Body, on behalf of the Methodist Preachers'
meeting of Baltimore, the following resolutions :

Resolved, That we, ministers of the Methodist Episcopal
Church, in Preachers' meeting, in the city of Baltimore
assembled, do hereby declare, that we are in full accord with
the teachings of our church as uttered in the resolves of its
two last General Conferences, and incorporated in our disci-
pline, to the effect that the total legal prohibition of the
liquor traffic is both wise and necessary.

Resolved, That as a means of accomplishing this result, we
regard the method commonly known as Local Option, as a fair,
just and practicable one, believing as we do, that the citizens of
our State in their several cities or election districts, where
liquor saloons, bar rooms and beer shops exist, and who
have ample opportunities to observe their practical influence
on the health, happiness and interests of the people, and
who have to bear the burthens, financial and otherwise,
which such establishments everywhere impose, should have
the power to determine the question of their continued exist-
ence or suppression.

Resolved, That we rejoice in the great good already accom-
plished by this method of Local Option in nearly the whole
of five counties in our State, and in a number of districts in.
