THURSDAY, February 7th, 1878.
Senate'met pursuant to adjournment.
Prayer by the Rev. J. H. Dashiell.
Present at roll call the following Senators :

Messrs. President, Combs, of Allegany, Cooper, Dennis,
Ford, Franklin, Freeman, Garey, Gorman, Hepbron, Hill,
Humphreys, Joyce, Lancaster, Lee, McLane, Miller, New-

comer, Peter/Steiner, Sulivane, Welfley, Wilson—23.

The proceedings of yesterday were read and approved.

Mr. Hill presented the petition of sundry citizens of Prince

George's County, with accompanying papers, praying that
the name of Elizabeth Cross, a widow of a soldier of the war
of 1812, be placed on the pension roll.

Which was read, and referred to the Committee on Pen-
sions.

Mr. Hill presented the certificates of Daniel R. Dyer, In-
spector of Tobacco at State Tobacco Warehouse No. 1, in re-
lation to tobacco damaged by the flood on Sunday, the 17th

of September, 1876.

Which were read, and referred to the Committee on
Finance.

Mr, Gorman presented the petitions of H. O. Devries and
C. W. Baldwin and other citizens of Howard County, re-

questing the passage of a law submitting to the voters of the
State the question whether licenses shall be granted to sell
intoxicating liquors as a beverage.

Which were read, and referred to the Committee on
Temperance.

On motion by Mr. Hepbron, it was

Ordered, That it be entered on the Journal that Mr.
Bannon is absent from his seat to-day on account of official
business.

On motion by Mr. Newcomer,

Leave was granted to the Committee on Corporations to
introduce a bill to be entitled an Act to repeal Section 296,
and sub-Section 1, of the Public Local Laws of Washington
County, and to re-enact'the same with amendments.
