Mr. Benson, from Committee on Corporations, re-
ported favorably, with amendments,

House bill, File No. 68, entitled "An Act to limit
the hours of service of certain employes engaged in
operating any railroad in this State, and making it
unlawful for any person, corporation or association,
to permit such employes to be on duty for more than
eight hours in any twenty-four consecutive hours."

AMENDMENTS PROPOSED.

Strike out in section 1, all after the words "be it
enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland," and
insert in lieu thereof, "that it shall be unlawful for
any person, corporation or association operating a
railroad within this State, to permit any telegraph
operator who spaces trains by use of the, telegraph
under what is known and termed 'Block System,' de-
fined as follows: Reporting trains to each other, regis-
tering the same, and operating one or more train order
signals, and telegraph lever men who manipulate lever
machines in railroad yards or on the main tracks out
on the line, connecting side tracks or switches, or
train dispatchers in its services, whose duties pertain
to the movement of cars, engines or trains on its rail-
road by the use of the telegraph in dispatching or re-
porting trains or receiving or transmitting train orders,
as interpreted in this section, to be on duty for more
than eight hours in any twenty-four consecutive hours,
provided, however, that this Act shall not apply to
persons acting in the capacity of agents for the pur-
pose of receiving and receipting for freight and de-
livering the same, or for the purpose of selling tickets
to passengers."

tween the words "of" "and hundred," and insert the
word "one."
