Senate bill, File No. 59, entitled "An Act to repeal
and re-enact, sections 38, 211,212, 213, 214, 215 and
216, of Article 1 of the Code of Public Local Laws,
title 'Allegany County,' sub-title 'County Commis-
sioners and Roads,' and to re-enact the same with
amendments, and add certain additional sections to
said Article 1, sub-title 'Roads,' and to provide for a
road directory and a road engineer in Allegany county
and to place all the public roads in said Allegany
county under the control of the road directory, to be
created by this Act.' "
AMENDMENTS PROPOSED.
Amend by adding after section 216 1, and at the end
thereof, as follows :
"Provided, That if one month before the day of the
general election in this State for the year 1907, twenty
per cent, of the registered voters of Allegany county,
shall sign a petition requesting a referendum to the
vote of the people of said county upon this act, then
the election supervisors for Allegany county, shall
cause to be placed on the official bollot of said elec-
tion the usual squares for and against said Act, one
of which shall read 'For the Road Law,' with a square
opposite in which the voter may make his mark and the
other to read 'Against the Road Law,' with a square
opposite, in which the voter may make his mark. And
if a majority of the votes cast thereon shall be in favor
of the Road Law, then same shall continue in full force
and effect. But if a majority of the votes cast shall
be against said Road Law, the the said Road Law
shall continue in effect until the first day of April,
1908 and no longer; after which date it shall be con
sidered as repealed, and the several Acts by this Act
repealed shall be considered as revived in the place
thereof; provided, further, that the petitions of twenty
per cent, of the voters required to secure a referendum
as above set forth shall conform to the requirements
of chapter 202 of the Acts of 1896, in relation to inde-
pendent nominations, so far as those provisions may
be applicable, and the election supervisor's shall be
