The Senators of Maryland, escorted by the House
Committee, Messrs. Collins and Feaga, appeared at the
Hall of the House of Delegates, for the purpose of
convening in Joint Assembly with that body for the
election of a United States Senator in the Congress of
the United States for six years, in succession of the
Hon. Louis E. McComas, whose term of office will ex-
pire March 4, A. D. 1905.
The Speaker of the House of Delegates, assumed the
chair as chairman of the joint assembly.
The roll of Senators was then called by the Secre-
tary of the Senate, and it appeared that 26 Senators
answered to their names.
The Chief Clerk of the House of Delegates then
called the roll of the House and 100 Members answered
to their names.
The Secretery of the Senate then read the-Journal
of proceedings of the Senate of the preceding day, in
relation to the election of a Senator in Congress from
this State, for the term ending on the 4th day of March,
1911.
After which
The Chief Clerk of the House of Delegates read the
Journal of the proceedings of the House of Delegates
on the preceding day, in relation to a Senator in Con-
gress from this State, showing the fact that no person
at the vote so taken had received a majority of all the
votes cast by the General Assembly for Senator in
Congress from this State, for the term of six years, end-
ing on the 4th day of March, 1911.
The Speaker of the House of Delegates, as Chair-
man of the Joint Assembly, announced that there had
been no election of the United States Senator from this
State, on the previous day in either House.
The roll of Senators was then called by the Secre-
tary of the Senate.
Whereupon,
Mr. President named Hon. Bernard Carter.
Mr. Applegarth named Hon. Elihu E. Jackson.
Mr. Beasman named Hon. Bernard Carter.
