greater distance."

Mr. Feaga, from Select Committee, reported favor-
ably, with amendments,
House bill, File No. 95, entitled "An Act to abolish
the county insane asylum in Allegany county and to
provide for the pauper insane of said county else
where."
AMENDMENTS PROPOSED.
At the end of section 6 add the following:
"After the passage of this bill, if the County Com-
missioners of Allegany county find it impossible to
have the inmates of Sylvan Retreat cared for in some
one or more of the institutions in this State for the
care of the insane, owing to the crowded condition of
said institutions, they shall maintain said county
asylum at a cost of the county, until the patients there-
in can be received into some one or more of said in-
stitutions in this State for the care and treatment of
the insane. But as soon, however, as said commis-
sioners can contract with one or more of said institu-
tions for the care of the indigent insane, Allegany
county, they shall do so, and immediately close said
Sylvan Retreat as an insane asylum or place for the
care and treatment of the same."

House bill, File No. 391, entitled "An Act to au-
thorize the County Commissioners of Baltimore county
to erect and build a bridge over the head waters of
Back river, in the Fifteenth Election District of Bal-
timore county, to connect a road to be hereafter
opened, running from a point on the Eastern Avenue
road at its intersection with Gilmore's lane, to a point
on the old Philadelphia road at its intersection with
Stansbury lane."
