To the Worll. ye Justices of the Peace for the County of Somerset Contra. } in Court Sitting _____ The humble Petion of Mary Crawshaw Leonard: Jones: Dfendt. humbly Sheweth that yr Petioner being transported into this – ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ County as a Servant & hath Served her time according to the Custome of the Country wth Leonard Jones of this County. Nevertheless the sd Leonard refuseth to lett the Said Mary take her freedome, as also her Corn & Clothes &ca. according to Act of Assembly. May it therefore please yr Worpps to take the premises into yr Consideration & give judgmt thereon according as your worpps Shall think fitt, And yr Petioner as in duty bound Shall ever pray &ca.
Know all Men by these presents that I William: Gross of the County of Annarundell Planter doe here by Assign, Sett over unto Leonard Jones of Somerset County Sloopman, All manner of Claime Right, Title & Interest unto a Certain Woman Servant I bought of Richard Chegne, having now to Serve three years & eight months this 10th. day of Aprill 1691 As Witness my hand & Seal this 10th day of Aprill 1691. – – – – – – – – – – William: Gross. ❂ Sealed // Witness: Wm. To the Worll. Comrs of Somerset County. Jno: Hicks humbly prayeth relief &ca. Which being Considered The Court hath allowed out of the next County Leavy five hundred pounds of tob to sd Hicks &ca.
Ellis: Coleman Plt. Somerset Ss // Contra } Howell: ffrancis otherwise Called Howell ffrancis late of Somerset County Howell: Francis: Dft in ye Province of Maryland was attached to answer unto Ellis Coleman ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ of a plea of debt. ____ And whereupon the sd Ellis by Robert: Pirrie his Attorney Saith that the Said Howell in the year of our Lord 1692 at Snow hill Town within ye Jurisdiction of this Court by a Certain Bill which the Said Ellis under the hand & Seal of the Said Howell bringeth here into Court the date Whereof is the year aforesd, acknowledged him Self to be bound to the Said Ellis in ye full & just Sum of three thousand five hundred pounds of Merchantable Porke & fourty & four pounds of Porke more added to the aforesd Sum before the Sealing & Signing which in all amounts unto the Sum of three thousand five hundred fourty four pounds of like Porke, to be paid to the Said Ellis upon all demands after the first day of December next ensueing the doate of the Said Bill it being for a valuable Consideration received by the aforesd Howell from the aforesd Ellis for the above mentioned Sum of Porke, Nevertheless the Said Howell the Said Sum of three thousand five hundred & forty four pounds of Merchantable Porke unto the sd Ellis according to the tenour of the sd Bill hath not paid although often demanded, but the Same to pay hath denyed & doth Still deny to the damage of the sd Ellis of Seven thousand eighty eight pounds of Merchantable Porke & hereof he brings his Sute &ca.
