( 51 ) Their Maties Somerset County Ss Contra } The Grand Jury for the body of this Court at a Court held in the Said County ye Second Tuesday in Janry Susannah: Church Last Doe Present Susannah: Church of this County Spinster for that the Said Susannah hath wickedly and Sinfully Comitted fornication and born a Basterd Child to the dishonor of God ye Evill Example agt the Peace &ca. Dent Clk prsentmts. The foresd Indictmt being read to which the sd Susannah then pleaded guilty and Said the foresd Basterd Child was gott & born in Accamack in the Collony of Virginia. Whereupon ye Worll. Court demanded Security of the sd Susannah to keep this County indempnified from all Charge & trouble that might ensue by her & her Basterd Child and that she should depart this County within two months after the date hereof . - - - - - - - - And thereupon Came Thomas Powell and did in Open Court promise to keep sd County indempnified as abovesd and that sd Susannah should depart in time as sd. and that he would pay for sd Susannah 200lb.tobacco to mr Dent & to ye Clk of ye Court 100lb. tob for their fees wch mr Round assumed for sd

And Whereupon the Said Andrew by Peter Dent his Attorney Complains that Whereas - - - - - - - - - - - the Said Thomas the 21th. day of ffebry in the year of or Lord 1692/3 at Monocan Within the Jurisdiction of this Court by his Certaine Note Subscribed with the propper hand of him the Said Tho. Clifton and here in Court prduced may appear and the Said Thomas to the Said Andrew in manner aforesd being indebted did assume upon him Self. and to the Said Andrew faithfully promise that he the said Thomas the Sum of Seven paire of good Sufficient mens or Womens Shoes on demand would well and truly Satisfie & pay Nevertheless the Said Thomas his promise and Assumption not regarding but minding and fraudulently intending him the said Andrew in this behalf Craftily and Subtily to deceive and defraud the Seven paire of Mens or Womens Shoes according to the tenour of the Said Note hath not paid but hath hitherto denyed and doth Still deny to the damage of the Said Andrew of One thousand pounds of tobacco & thereof he brings his Sute. &ca.
