( 47 ) 7ber ye 15th 1692 . Causes Which foresd the sd Crawford promised to make his personall appearance ye next day & Certifie ye Court whether he would give Security or no to prforme ye Orders Concerning the Orphants of mr Jno White B The day following viz upon the 16th. day of 7ber Ano 1692 the Said Crawford again appeared in Court but for want of good Security. This Court Comits the sd Crawford into the Sheriffs Custody till he give Security to Comply with former Order or Orders of Court Concerning Wm: White &ca ________ Their. Maties Somerset Sc. Ths Jurors for their Maties being Sworne Contra } upon the holy Evangelists at a Grand Jury held for ye body Jno: Hepworth of this County, doe present & find. That Jno. Hepworth of ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Annimessex hundred & within the Jurisdiction of this Court at Annimessex as Said is Sometime in the month of 7ber 1691 Not being Satisfied to have Comitted a grievious & heynious Sinn of formication, but at the house of the Said Hopworths in ye abovesd hundred did voluntarily & freely declare & with a Loud & audible voice proclaime that he the Said John: Hepworth had at divers & Sundry times used Carnally the body of Sarah: Davis, the wife Of Thomas Davis of the Same place & hundred of Annimessex, & with her had lyen & that she was a whore & his whore, being plaine & manifest Open Confession of his Crime, without being either provoked or Compelled thereunto God so Ordering it, that the Secret Sin, should be made public by the transgressour himself. Therefore their Maties Attorney Craves judgmt may be entered agt the said John: according to Law in that Case made and provided. Ja. Sangster Clr Indtmts. _____ Evid Sw agt The abovesaid Indictmt. being read, to which the Said John: Hepworth pleaded not guilty Hepworth C referring himself to the judgmt. of this Court; who Orders Said John fined Jno. Rouch Senr & } beeing drunk according to his Owne Confession . _____ Ordered likewise sd John Ja: Carter give good Security for the bahavior dureing pleasure ________________________ Whereupon Came the abovesd John: Hepworth with his Two Securities viz Jno Roach Senior & Benjamine Sumors. and the sd Hepworth did pr Recognizance in Open Court acknowledge himself to be justly indebted to their Maties King Wm: & Queen Mary of England &ca the just Sum of tenn pounds Sterling money of England & the sd Roach & Sumers did likewise confess them Selves indebted as abovesd the Sum of five pounds apiece like money, due to be leavied on their goods & Chattels lands & Tennements for their Maties Heirs or Successors &ca. ________________ The Condicon of wch Recognizance is Such that if the above bound Jno Hepworth be of the good behavior and. abearance dureing the Courts pleasure to all their Maties Liege people of this Province then ye Recognizance to be void & of no effect Otherwayes to be & remaine in full power force & vertue |
