( 26 ) 7ber 14: 1692 by whome or judge Dame him & thus Continued for a while Cursing & blaspheming our Saviour Jesus Christ as also the Said Wm: Morris of Dividing Creeke, at another time on the Said third day of April at the house of mr George Layfield in Pocomoke hundred being reprehended for his horrible Curses & Oaths did then & there at ye Said house of mr George : Layfield Esqr. advisedly premeditatly Considerably audibly & with a Loud voice (when asked how he could answer it at the tribunal Barr before the great judge of heaven & earth, Said God dame the judge. Now their Maties Attorney Comes and Sayes that the Said Wm: Morris of Dividing Creek in Pocomoke hundred hath not only violated & in a most blasphemous nature transgressed agt the Sacred Laws of Almighty God, but also is guilty of the Said Act of Religion, & ought to Suffer ye pains & punishmts by the sd Act inflicted upon Such horrible & grosse Offenders . ______ James: Sangster Clr Indts ___ After wch indictmt was read the said Morris pleaded ye Indictmt was false then the Evidences (viz) Martha: Houghes. Archibald Holmes & Dr Jno. Vigerous made Oath to their former Depositions, inserted in lib B.W.Z. ____________ mr Samuel Hopkins Testimony to the Court Concerning sd Morris, who sayes he heard the sd Wm: Morris Cursing & Daming, the sd Hopkins reproving the said Morris & telling him that he must One day give accot to God. the Said Morris replyed God dam the & thy God, with many more Such like expressions; this was ye day after ye foresd Serman after which this Court Ordered the Sheriffe to take into Custody Wm: Morris, & him Transmitt to the next Provincial Court to be holden at the Citty of St Maries with a Transcript of totall proceedings _______ - - - - - - - - - - ________ - - - - - - - Then was taken Dr. John: Vigerous & Archibald Holmes Recognizance = Dr. Jno. Vigerous & Archibald Holmes yw doe acknowled & Confess yr Selves to owe & are indebted unto their Maties King Wm: & Queen Mary the Sum of 20, Sterling a piece due to be leavied on ye goods & Chattels Lands & Tenements for their Maties Uses &ca. ___ The Condicon of Which Recognizance is Such that if the above bound Jno. Vigerous & Archibald: Holmes, doe make their personall appearance at the next Provincial Court to be holden at ye Citty of St. Maries; then & there to give Evidence for their Maties agt William: Morris, that then this Recognizance to be void & of none effect otherwayes to be & remaine in full power force & vertue B . mr George Layfield assumes in Court that his Servant Martha: Houghes shall likewise then appear as Evid for Maties agt sd Morris |
