Circumspections, prudences & Wisdomes, Wee have Constituted Ordained & appointed, and doe by these
presents Constitute, Ordain & appoint, You the Said ffrancis: Jenckins John:Winder James Dashiel
Roger: Woolford. Wm:Whittington, Tho:Newbold James: Round. Samuel:Hopkins Edmund Howard
Tho: Jones, John:King & Stephen. Horsey and Arnold:Elzey Comiss^ers. Joyntly & Severally to keep
the Peace in Somerset County, & to keep & Cause to be kept all Laws & Orders for the good & (order)
of the Peace & for y^e quiet rule & governm^t;. of the people in all & every the Articles of the (    )
and to Chastise & punish all persons offending agt the forme of any the Laws & orders of our Province
of Maryland, or of any of them in Somerset County afd, as according to the forme & Orders of (      )
Laws & Orders  Shall be fitt to be done. Wee have also Constituted & Ordained you and every four or
more of y^w, of which  y^w the Said ffr: Jenckins. Jn^o:Winder. Ja:Dashliel Roger:Woolford & William
Whittington or one of y^w are allwayes to be One, Com^er to enquire by the Oaths of good & lawfull
men of y^r County afsd, of all manner of ffellonies Witchcrafts, Inchantm^ts Sorceries Magick Arts
Trespasses fforestallings, Ingrossings & Extortions whatsoever, & of all & Singular other misdeeds
& offences (excepting matters relating to titles of Land) of which Justices of y^e peace in England
may or ought lawfully to enquire by whomsoever or whensoever done or perpetrated or which  (  )
hereafter Shall happen to be done or perpetrated in the County afsd agt the Laws & Orders of our said
Province, Provided that y^w proceed not in any of the Cases afsd to take away life or members but
that in Such Cases you  Send the prisoners with their Indictm^ts . with the whole matter depending
before y^w to the next Provincial Court to be holden for our Said Province, whensoever or wheresoever
the Same Shall happen to be holden there to be tryed . And further wee doe authorized y^w here by to
issue out Writts, precepts process, arrests & attachements & to hold plea of Oyer & Terminer &
after judgm^t Execution to Award, in all Causes Civil real personall or mixt according to y^e Laws
Orders & reasonable Customes made & used in our sd Province of Maryland, in which Causes
Civil to be tryed (Excepting as before excepted) Wee doe Consitute Ordain & appoint you the
Said ffra: Jenckins, John.Winder. Ja: Dashiel. Roger:Woolford & Wm: Whittington to be Judges
as afd: And therefore Wee Comand y^w & the rest of the Com^rs Named that y^w diligently attend (y^e )
keeping of the Peace Laws & Orders, and all & Singular Other the premises, and at a Certain
dayes appointed by Act of Assembly, and in Such places which y^w or any four or more of y^w as afd
Shall in that behalf appoint y^w make enquiry upon the premises & perform & fulfill (y^e same )
in forme afd, doing therein that w^ch to right & (Justice) appertaineth according to the Laws Orders
& reasonable Customs of our Sd Province, Saving to us the Amerciam^ts & other things thereof to us
belonging. And therefore Wee Comand y^w the Sheriff of the sd County of Somerset by vertue of (these)
