( 180 ) March 15th 1692/3 Before his eyes, but instigated by the Divel, after Severall inticeing & wicked alureme(nts) Seduceings, upon the 16th .day of Janry last past did Comitt adultery with one Eliz. Lawrence Servant woman then to the Said Pope, at the sd Popes house in Mattapony hundred & within the Jurisdiction of this Court Contrary to the holy Laws of God & agt the Sound & wholesome laws of this Province, and Scandall & Evil Example to their Maties People. Therefore Craves that judgmt. may be entered agt the sd Offendere according to Law, in that Case made & provided June Court 1692: Ja. Sangster Clr. Indts. Somerset County Ss // Know all men by these presents that wee John:Pope, Roger Odowey & Wm:Stevenson of Somerset County & Province of Maryland doe acknowledge our Selves to Stand firmly bound and justly indebted unto their Maties King Wm & Queen Mary in the full & just Sum of thirty pounds Sterling money & for the payment of the Same well & truly to be made when ever required by their Maties Justices of the Peace of the sd County wee the persons above named doe Joyntly & Severally bind & Oblige Our Selves our Heirs Execcutors & Admrs in the whole & for ye whole payment firmly & absolutely by vertue of these presents, dated this 21th of May. 1692. // The Condicon of the abovesd Obligation is Such that if the above bounden John:Pope doe make his personall appearance at the Court next to be holden in the sd County then & there to answer before their Maties Justices of the Peace, all & whatsoever, Shall be preferred & objected agt him on their Maties behalf & doe Stand & abide the judgmt of the Said Court relateing to all breach ofhis Bonds of the behaviour, Breaches of the good & wholesome Laws of this their Maties Province and any and all other misdemeanors by him the Said John:Pope perpetrated Comitted & done, then this Obligation becomes utterly void, but if otherwise, then to Stand remain & abide in full force Strength & vertue, as wittness our hands & Seals the day & year above written.
