Sylas: Chapman. Defend^t.          to answer unto George Layfield Esq^r. of a plea
________________________                 that he render unto him, the full & just Sum of
nine hundred Pounds of tobacco & Caske w^ch to him he Oweth & unjustly detaineth &ca
And whereupon the Said George by Peter Dent his Attorney Saith that the Sylas the
Second day of ffebruary in the year of our Lord 1690/1: at Pocomoke within y^e Jurisdiction
of this Court, by his Certain Bill Obligatory, which the Said George with the Seal of y^e
Said Sylas bringeth here into Court, the date whereof is the day & year aforesd, acknow=
ledged himself to be indebted to the Said George in y^e sd Sum of 900 Pounds of tobacco
to be paid to the Said George, to which paym^t. the Said Sylas bound himself firmly by
the Said Bill Nevertheless the sd Sylas the sd Sum of 900 Pounds of tobacco to y^e Said
George hath not rendered according to the tenn^r of the Said Bill but hath hitherto
refused & doth Still refuse to the damage of the Said George of 1800 Pounds of
tobacco & thereof he brings this Sute. &ca.
