To their Maties Worll Justices of the Peace (for the County of Somerset )
The humble Petion of the Grand Inquest          (sheweth)
that yr humble petioners yesterday having heard Sundry Comisions read in Court grant(ed by)
his Excellie the Governr of this Province to One mr Edward Green & mr Joshua:Bark-
Stead. relating to rainging and Surveying &ca in this County which to yr humble
Petioners Seems of very high Consequence, & not greatly to be admired, That Strangers
newly here arrived Should obtaine Such high priveledges, & their Maties Loyal Subjects
in or County of So long Continuance So litle regarded which indeed has begott  in ye (petioners)
Such thoughts as the foresd Comissions are Surreptiously obtained & his Excellie not duely
informed, which Comissions we humbly begg may be & lye dormant till his Excellie
may have fuller informacons and as in duty bound Shall ever pray. ____________
 
The Courts letter to his Excellie as followeth.
May it please yr Excellie,
Wee your most humble Servts the Justices of Somerset County having recd this day in
Court Sitting the inclosed petion and as a duty incumbent, thought it most propper
with these Suitors likewise to render accot. of the Sundry informations annexed with
our own Sentiments vizt. the Said mr Green & mr Barkstead  Since their arival
in this County, by their misdemeanours have highly disobliged many of the good people
hereof. Usurping a power to themselves, without either warrant or Certificate
runing of lines through other mens lands thereby making Divisions of other mens
Lands & offering Some thereof to Sale.  Of which reports we are not only Credibly
informed but of its verity most thoroughly prsuaded, as well as of the (mean-?  ) of their
Capascities to warrant Such transactions: May it therefore please yr Excellie we yr most
humble Servts . as abovesd doe not only acquiesce with ye Inquest but likewise pray (if
with honor it may Consist, that these Comissions for Surveying & Rainging may be
Conferred on Such well affected prsons, as may not only Study yr Excellies Saifty & advantage
but likewise render generll. Satisfaction to this County wch is ye humble desire of. Sr ____
