Dom 1691. for ye County of Somerset in the Province of Maryland -- ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Comrs Present Coll David Browne. mr ffrancis Jenckins. Majr Robert King. Capt. John: Winder in Court were.} mr James: Dashiels. mr. George: Layfield. mr. Samll. Hopkins mr Tho: Jones Capt Jno. King -- ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ The Court being thre times Called/, The Sheriffe of the County presented this following list of the Grand Jurys names ( viz ) John: Bozman. Thomas: Dixon. Robert: Houlston. John: Carter. George: Goddard Thomas: Rolph. John: Rutter, Richard: Whitty. John. Panter. Thomas: Tull. George Lane. John:Townsend Jnr John: Outen. Robert: Johnson George: Russell John: ffranklin. John: Tarr. Thomas: Poynter. James:Given John: Ritchins. Wm. Cheesman. Thomas: Selby Senior. Arnold: Elzey. Walter: Read. The aforesd Grand Jury being Called Over, at which time, Tho: Dixon. George: Goddard. Richard: Whitty & Walter Read did not appear. Whereupon this Court Orders them to be fined unless they show Cause &c. imediatly after the sd Dixon and read appeard showing Cause &c and therefore there fines was remitted. and forthwith the Grand Jury was Sworn all except. Goddard & Whitty who Still remains fined -- unless shew Cause next Court &c. The Coroners & Constables were likewise Called. and New Constables were appointed this day as followeth (viz) Robert Crouch for Wiccocomocoe hundred ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Samuel: ffluellin for Nanticoke hundred John. Gentlemen. I did design this Court to have waited upon yw but the indisposedness of my wife being dangerous Sick hath impeaded my intended and necessary attending upon yr worpps. Occasioned by Sister Whittingtons decease, Once ye Relict and widdow of Capt. Osbourne, by whose will & Testament in Case of his wifes Mortality I was in Charge with his Children left; as Extr. or Guardian the Will will to yw demonstrate, which I never Saw Since was made, which makes me at these uncertainties, as the Care & Charge of Orphants are great, but more espetially when tis wholy imposed upon One Single person. to ease the dificulty I proposd to Capt. Whittington to be equally Concerned with me to discharge that great trust which he then Seemingly conceeded too but Since I have received a letter from him, wherein he intimates, that he will either be wholy Concerned Contrary to the Will of the Testator) or not at all Taxing me of underhand dealings to all which I have given him my response, as I must to yr worpps That the will of every Testator ought to be Sacredly Observed, & inviolably performed, and tho I am willing for the good and the interest of the Children, partly to relinquish, yet I cannot nor dare not without breach of trust wholy resigne. if your worpps please to pruse the Will, and if find that my motion is not just and |
