Public Works, is authorized to make provision for paying one-
fourth of the cost of such improvements; now therefore
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the sum of $150, 000 or so much thereof as may be
necessary, be and the same is hereby appropriated as an
emergency appropriation from any funds in the General Sur-
plus Fund account of the Treasury of the State for the fiscal
year ending June 30, 1948, and so much of said sum as shall
not have been spent during the fiscal year ending June 30,
1948 for the fiscal year ending June 30, 1949, to the Board
of Public Works to be used by said Board in paying one-fourth
of the cost of improvements made by the County Commis-
sioners of any county to the jail of said county, pursuant to
Chapter 761 of the Acts of 1945.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That the Treasurer of
the State, shall, upon the warrant of the Comptroller, dis-
burse the said sum of money herein appropriated for the
objects and purposes herein specified, to or upon the order of
the person or persons entitled to receive the same.
SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act is hereby
declared to be an emergency measure and necessary for the
immediate preservation of the public health and safety and
having been passed by a yea and nay vote, supported by three-
fifths of all the members elected to each of the two Houses of
the General Assembly of Maryland, the same shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

AN ACT making an emergency appropriation from surplus to
the Maryland Commission on Uniform Accounts for the
fiscal year ending June 30; 1948.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the sum of Twenty-five Thousand Dollars ($25, 000),
or so much thereof as may be necessary, be and the same is
hereby appropriated as an emergency appropriation from any
funds in the General Surplus Fund Account of the Treasury
of the State of Maryland for the fiscal year ending June 30,
1948, to the Maryland Commission on Uniform Accounts, for
paying the expenses of said Commission in performing the
duties imposed upon it by Chapter 328 of the Acts of 1947.
