of this act be complied with; it shall be the
duty of said trustees to superintend the school within
their immediate district, to make rules for the good government
of said schools, to give all orders on the commissioners
for the payment of teacher, and may suspend
or dismiss a teacher for immoral conduct or any
other cause, when in their judgment the interest of the
school may require it; they may at any time suspend
or expel a pupil for immorality, for continued insubordination,
or other improper conduct; and they shall
admit no child in any of the public schools under the
ages of five years or over the age of seventeen years,
unless in such cases as in their judgment this rule should
be dispensed with; they shall oblige the teacher in each
of their respective schools to keep a register of the
names and ages of all the pupils who have from time
to time attended the schools; and they shall, on or before
the first of December of each year, furnish the
president of the board of school commissioners with a
statement of the number of pupils, male and female,
that have attended the schools, within their respective
districts, during the year ending on the last of December.

     SEC. 11.  And be it enacted, That it shall be the
duty of the trustees of the several school districts of
the county to levy on each parent or guardian of the
of the district one dollar and fifty cents per quarter for
each child or ward, he or she may have, who shall attend
the schools of their respective districts, and the
amount so levied may be abated, one-fourth by the
parents provide from the assessment books of the county
that he or she is not assessed at three thousand dollars;
and three-fourths, if he or she prove by said books that
they are not assessed at one thousand dollars, and all
guardians are hereby required to claim for their wards
the abatement allowed to parents; Provided, that this
section shall not be so construed as to deny the benefits
of such school to the children of such parents as are
not assessed, and in default of payment of the sum or
sums hereby authorised to be levied, said trustees shall
have full power to sue for and recover the same in the
same manner as small debts are now recoverable, and
when collected, shall apply the same towards defraying
the current expenses of the school or schools under
their direction.

     SEC. 12.  And be it enacted, That the trustees of the
several school districts shall cause to be held during the
year at least one public examination of the pupils in
their respective schools, and said trustees are required
