     SEC. 7.  And be it enacted, That if any person or
persons shall wilfully do or cause to be done any act or
acts whereby the works of said corporation or any part
thereof, shall be in any way injured or obstructed, the
person or persons so offending, shall forfeit and pay to
the said corporation the amount of damage sustained
by means of said offence or injury, to be recovered,
with costs of suit, in the name of said corporation, before
any court having cognizance of the same.
     Power to receive
subscriptions.

      SEC. 8.  And be it enacted, That the president and
directors for the time being shall have power to receive
subscriptions for the whole or any part of the capital
stock remaining unsubscribed, in such manner and at
such time as they or a majority of them may deem
proper and necessary; and the stock of this corporation
shall be deemed personal property, and shall, with all
the effects of the said company, be answerable for all
contracts and engagements which may be made under
or by their authority.

     SEC. 9.  And be it enacted, That the Legislature reserves
to itself the right to alter or repeal this act at
pleasure.

                           CHAPTER 222.

AN ACT to refund to Margaret Cunningham of Baltimore
     city, administratrix of the late Capt. John Cunningham,
     a sum of money therein named.

18, 1853.
     SECTION 1.  Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland,
That the Treasurer is hereby authorised
and directed to refund and pay upon the warrant of
the Comptroller, to Mrs. Margaret Cunningham, administratrix
of the late Captain John Cunningham,
the sum of seven dollars and thirteen cents, being the
amount of State taxes paid in error by said administratrix.
     Authority to
refund.
     SEC. 2.  And be it enacted, That this act shall take
effect from the date of its passage.
