man of the Joint Assembly, announced the summary
of the vote cast by the members of the House of Dele-
gates, to-wit:
5 members had named the Hon Bernard Caiter.
24 " " John Walter Smith.
29 " " Isidor Rayner.
3 " " Joshua W. Miles.
3 " " Elihu E. Jackson.
25 " " Louis E. McComas.

Whereupon,
It appeared by a viva voce vote of each Senator and
Member present, (a majority of all the Members elected
to both Houses being present and voting) that upon a
JOINT VOTE.
Hon. John Walter Smith received 29 votes.
" Isidor Rayner " 38
" Elihu E. Jackson " 5 "
" Louis E. McComas " 30
" Bernard Carter " 9 "
" Joshua W. Miles " 4
Whole vote . . 111
Necessary to choice, 56.
Whereupon,
It appearing that no person had received a majority
of all votes cast,
The Chairman declared that no person bad been
elected by the Joint Assembly as Senator in the Con-
gress of the United States from this State for six years
in succession to the Hon. Louis E. McComas, whose
term of office will expire March 4, A. D. 1905.
Whereupon,
At 12.25 p.m.,
Mr. Wilson moved, that this Joint Assembly do now
adjourn until Tuesday, January 26th, A. D. 19,04, at
12 m.
