the said Commissioners shall be satisfied that the
security so offered is responsible for the amount of
said bond.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act
shall take effect from the date of its passage.

Which was adopted.

Said bill, as amended, was read the second time"; and
ordered to be engrossed for a third reading.

Mr. Gorter, from the Select Committee heretofore
appointed to notify the Hon. Arthur P. Gorman of
his election, reported that they had performed that
duty, and presented the following;

UNITED STATES SENATE,

Warington, D. C., Jan. 28, 1892.

GENTLEMEN: —You have, by the authority and direc-
tion of the legislature, informed me that I have been
elected a Senator from Maryland, in the Senate of the
United States, for the term of six years from March
4th, 1893.

I beg that you will say to the Senate and House of
Delegates that I gratefully accept the honor thus con
ferred upon me, and that I will perform its duties
with fidelity and zeal.

1 thank each and all of you fer the kindly manner
in which you have communicated to me the action of
the Legislature.

Committee on part of the Senate; Hon. Martin R,
