Which was read and referred to the Committee on
Finance,

The President presented the 41st Annual Report of
the Managers of the House of Refuge.

Which was read.

ORDERS.

On motion by Mr. Pearre, it was
Ordered by the Senate that Senator Coffin be ex-
cused for absence from to-day's session.
Mr. Toadvin presented the following:
Ordered, That rule XVI of the rules of the Senate
be and is hereby amended by adding thereto as a
Standing Committee of the Senate, one to be known
as "Committee on Roads and Highways, " to be com-
posed of five Senators.

Which was read, and referred to the* Committee on
Rules.

Mr. Hayes presented the following:
Ordered by the Senate, that each of the Pages here-
tofore appointed by the Senate, be paid the mileage
prescribed by law for Senators and officers living in
the counties from which said Pages were appointed.

Which was read, and referred to the Committee on
Finance.

On motion by Mr. Hayes,

The Rules were suspended so as to permit him to
report said order by yeas and nays, as follows:

AFFIRMATIVE.

Brown, Robinson,
Getty, Rogers,
