House bill entitled an Act to repeal and re-enact
with amendments section 614, of Article 4, of the
Code of Public Local Laws, title "City of Baltimore,'
sub-title "Justices of the Peace and Constables," as
amended by chapter 230 of the Acts of 1890.
With the following proposed amendments:
AMENDMENTS PROPOSED.
1. After the figures "1890," in the titling, add the
following: "And to add an additional section thereto,
to be known as 614 A."
2. After the word ''re-enacted," in 4th line of sec-
tion 1 of the bill, insert the following: "And an ad-
ditional section, to be known as 614 A, is added
thereto."
3. At the end of section 1 of the bill, add the fol-
lowing :
"614 A. That where there is an arrest by an officer of
the Police Department in the city of Baltimore of any
person for violation of an Ordinance of the Mayor and
City Council of Baltimore, or a Statute of the General
Assembly of the State of Maryland, punishable by
fine and not by imprisonment, during the hours when
the Police Magistrates are not at their respective
station houses, the Police Captain, Lieutenant or
other officer on duty and in charge of such station is
hereby authorized and empowered to release for the
next hearing before the Police Magistrate any person
so arrested, upon a deposit of an amount equal to the
fine or costs or penalty imposed, if found guilty, as
surety for such appearance, and after the hearing the
deposit is to be returned to the depositor if the com-
plaint is dismissed; if otherwise it is to be appropri-
ated as designated by law."
4. Strike out figure "5" in line 12, of section 1, and
insert in lieu thereof the figure "3," and strike ont,
the figure "6" in said line of said section, and insert
in lieu thereof the figure "4."

Said bill, as amended, was read the second time.
