is hereby amended by adding an additional section
|

to said act passed at this present session, to be num-
|
 
|
bered section fifteen and one-half, to read as follows :
|
 
|
SEC. 15 1/2. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
|
 
|
of Maryland, That it shall be lawful, however, not-
|
 
|
withstanding the provisions of the act to which this
|
 
|
is supplementary and amendatory, for any corpora-
|
 
|
tion or individual engaged in mining coal in Alle-
|
 
|
gany and Garrett counties, in this State, in or by a
|

a shaft, to contract with miners to dig the coal there-
|

in or therefrom by measurement, and in all cases
|
 
|
where the wages of the miners are by contract or
|
 
|
agreement ascertained by the cubic yard or other
|
 
|
measurement, it shall not be obligatory upon such
|
 
|
corporations or individuals so contracting to provide
|
 
|
scales, or any weigh-master or weigh-masters at such
|
 
|
shaft, or to weigh any coal therein, or taken there-
|
 
|
from ; but the miners cars used in any mine worked
|
 
|
by a shaft shall be measured by a sworn measurer,
|
 
|
and the capacity of each car shall be stamped or
|
 
|
branded thereon.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this act shall take
|
 
|
effect from the date of its passage.
