SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That, in order to enable

the said Managers of the House of Correction to
|
 
|
discharge the duties imposed upon them by this
|
 
|
act, they are hereby vested with all powers neces-
|
 
|
sary and proper, in their discretion, to provide
|

transportation for said convicts to and from the

place or places where they may be engaged at

work, and whilst at work, to furnish them at all
|
 
|
times with sufficient and proper food and clothing.

|
SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the Maryland

Canal Company are hereby authorized to enter
|
 
|
into a contract with the Board of Managers of the
|
 
|
Maryland House of Correction for the hire of
|
 
|
convicts in such number and for such time as they
|
 
|
may deem necessary for the purposes of this act,
|
 
|
and they are authorized to work such convicts
|
Where to
|
upon the construction of a canal from some point
|
work
|
on the Eastern Branch of the Potomac River, near
|
 
|
Bladensburg, in Prince George's county, to a point
|
 
|
on the Patapsco River, near Elkridge Landing, in
|
 
|
Howard county, or at any other point or points, or
|
 
|
line of said canal.
|
 
|
SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That this act shall take
|
 
|
effect from and after the date of its passage, and
all acts or parts of acts inconsistent therewith be
|
