and qualified. The burgess and commissioners must

be resident citizens of the corporate limits, and shall
|

receive no compensation for their services.

|
|
|
104. For the purpose of holding the election pro-
|
|
|
|
vided for in this act, the burgess and commissioners
|
|
|

shall, at the regular meeting in April in each year,
appoint three judges of election and two clerks, and
it shall be the duty of said judges to open the polls
|
|
|
|
at the place where elections for county officers are
|
|
|
|
usually held in said town, and to keep said polls
|
|

open from ten o'clock A. M. until six o'clock P. M.
|
|
|
|
Said judges shall qualify in the same manner that
|
|
|
|
judges of election for county and State officers qualify,
and shall certify the result of the election held by
|
|
|
|
them to the Clerk of the Circuit Court for Garrett
|
|
|
|
county.
|
|
|
|
105. If any vacancy shall occur in the office of
|
|
|

burgess or commissioner by death, resignation, re-

moval or otherwise, the remaining commissioners
|
|
|
|
shall cause an election to be held to supply the same,
|
|
|
|
and ten days' notice shall be given of such election.

106. If the citizens of said town at any time

|
|
neglect to make an election at the time before men-

|

sioners shall not, therefore, cease, but the power of

the inhabitants of said town in that respect shall

continue the same as though such an election had

been made, and the burgees and commissioners for

the time being shall continue and remain in office

|

until such election shall be held.

107. The said burgess and commissioners may

levy and collect taxes in said town not exceeding in

any one year twenty-five cents in the one hundred
|
|
|
|
dollars on the assessable property of said town, and
|
|
|
|
for the purpose of making said levy they shall once
|
|
|
|
in every three years appoint one assessor, who shall
|
|
|
|
under oath value, appraise and assess the property
in said town, including all property liable to State
|
|
|
|
and county taxes.
