Said bill, as amended, was then read a second time.
Mr. Bittinger, acting Chairman of the Committee on
Federal Relations, reported favorably,
House bill entitled an Act granting the consent of
Maryland to the acquisition of lands within the State
by the United States, or by States or Historical
Societies for the purpose of erecting monuments at
Antietam and Monocacy.
Which was read a second time, and ordered to be
engrossed for a third reading,
Mr. Smith, of Dorchester, from the Committee on
Public Buildings, reported unfavorably the following
order, referred to said Committee March 3d, viz:
Ordered, That James Goodwin be appointed for the
month of March to attend to the heating apparatus in
the different rooms, called steam heaters, at $2 per day.
Which was adopted.
REPORTS OF SELECT COMMITTEES.
Mr. Haines, from a Select Committee, reported
favorably,
House bill entitled an Act to authorize and empower
the Mayor and Common Council of Westminster to
purchase water works for said city.
Which was read a first time.
Mr. Schlaffer, from a Select Committee, reported
favorably,
House bill entitled an Act to prohibit book-making,
pool selling or gambling on races, or contests or other
events in Baltimore county.
