On motion of Mr. Hamilton, it was
Ordered, That Mr. Schlaffer be excused from this
morning's and to-night's session.
On motion of Mr. Corrthwaite, it was
Ordered, That Mr. Gill be excused from attending
to-day's session on account of important business.
Mr. Stearns submitted the following order, viz :
Ordered, That the Chairman of the Committee on
Claims be and he is hereby directed to order a book
of blank certificates, and draw order for the payment
of same on its completion.
Which was adopted by yeas and nays, as follows :

On motion of Mr. Fitzgerald,
The House took a recess until 9 P. M., to allow ad-
.dresses of Messrs. Wicks, Legg and Haddaway, in
opposition to leasing oyster grounds in Eastern Bay.
The House resumed business at 9 P. M.
PETITIONS, MEMORIALS AND OTHER PAPERS.
Mr. Anderson presented a petition from Jas, Daniels
and other citizens of Somerset county, asking for a
law to prohibit non-residents from scraping for crabs
in the waters of said county and to require a license
for same by citizens of said county.
Which was read, and referred to the Somerset
County Delegation.
