After section 61, add another section, to be desig-
nated as "62," and to read as follows:
62. The Mayor shall by virtue of his office see that
the ordinances of the city are duly and faithfully
executed. He shall appoint, subject to the confirma-
tion of the City Council, all the officers of said city
who are not made elective by the people or the City
Council (except the City Treasurer, Collector and
Police Magistrate, who shall be elected by the City
Council and also excepting the Water Rent Collector
and Superintendent and all other employees or offi-
cers of the Water Department who shall be appointed
and be under the control of the Board of Water Com-
missioners hereinafter provided for.
"He shall annually, on the first Monday in May,
report to the council, in writing, the general state of
the city, with an accurate account of the monies re-
ceived and expended, which report shall be published
in each of such two newspapers in said city of oppo-
site political faith, as shall be designated by the City
Council, giving a full and particular statement of all
receipts and disbursements. He shall have power to
remove any of the officers, agents or servants by him
appointed for neglect or violation of any duties per-
taining to their respective offices, and shall appoint
others in their stead, and shall report such removal
and appointment to the City Council at its next regu-
lar meeting for its approval or disapproval; he shall
have general supervision of the city and shall submit
from time to time to the council such recommenda-
tions as he shall deem proper ; he shall also, by virtue
of his office, be chairman of the Trustees of the Sink-
ing Fund, and of the Board of Health, and shall dis-
charge all the duties pertaining to chairmanship, and
he shall receive for his services an annual salary of
five hundred dollars.
In section 63, after the word city, in line 38, insert
the following: "Auction, bargain and bankrupt sales
and all other kinds of business or commercial ventures
to be carried on for a shorter period than one year,
and pass all such ordinances as may be necessary to
establish, maintain, govern and control a paid fire
department in the city.
