and to re-enact the same.

Said bill was then sent to the Senate.
Senate bill entitled an Act to extend and enlarge
the privileges and powers of the Baltimore and Cum-
berland Railway Company, incorporated under and
by the General Laws of this State.
Was considered.
Mr, Smith, of Washington county, submitted the
following proposed amendment:
AMENDMENT PROPOSED.
Add to section 2, "provided, however, that nothing
herein contained shall be so construed as to authorize
or permit the said Baltimore and Cumberland Rail-
road Company to lease or purchase the road of the
Western Maryland Railroad Company, or any road
owned or controlled by said Western Maryland Rail-
road Company, unless and until the contract for such
lease or purchase shall first have been published for
two months in one newspaper published in Washington
county, and in one newspaper published in the city of
Baltimore, and, shall have been authorized and ap-
proved by a majority of the votes cast by the people
of Washington county, and by a majority of the
votes cast by the people of the city of Baltimore, at
the general election next succeeding the end of said
period of two months.
