Your petitioners respectfully represent that in view
of the facts now before the General Assembly of Mary-
land in the report of the committee appointed at the
last session thereof, to investigate said defalcation,
and in view also of the existing law to which said
facts apply, there are many and strong equitable con-
siderations which entitle them to relief; they there-
fore pray that the Legislature will carefully weigh
and consider said facts and law, and grant them such
relief as may be just and equitable.

On motion of Mr. Smith, of Washington county,
it was
Ordered, That Mr. Shafer be excused from to-day's
session, on account of sickness.
On motion of Mr. Carrico, it was
Ordered, That Mr. Maddox be excused from attend-
ance at last night's and to-day's sessions, on account
of important business.
On motion of Mr. Wilson, it was
Ordered, That Mr. Strong be excused from to-day's
session, on account of sickness.
Also,
Ordered, That Mr. Bittinger be excused from non-
attendance at last night's session, on account of miss-
ing the trains.
On motion of Mr. Grove, of Cecil, it was
Ordered, That Mr. Kirk be excused" from to-day's
session, on account of sickness.
