Were severally read a second tune, and ordered to
be engrossed for a third reading.
The Secretary of the Senate appeared and delivered
the following message:
House bill entitled an Act to legalize and make valid
the appointment of Registers of Voters and the Board
of Supervisors of Elections in the city of Hagerstown,
and the entries made, acts done, and proceedings
taken by said Registers of Voters in attempted pur-
suance of the duties required of them respectively'
by the provisions of chapter 36, of the Acts of the
General Assembly of Maryland, passed at its present
January Session, entitled an Act to repeal sections
156 and 159,of Article 22, of the Code of Public Local
Laws, entitled "Washington County," sub-title
"Hagerstown," and to re-enact the following in lieu
thereof, amending and revising the charter of Hagers-
town, and in providing for the government thereof.,
and to add new and additional sections to Article 22,
of the Code of Public Local Laws, title "Washington
County," sub title ''Hagerstown."
Endorsed: "Read the third time, and passed by
yeas and nays."
Also,
Joint Resolution authorizing the Attorney-General
to employ counsel to assist him in the defence of Wil-
liam Marsh, a citizen of Maryland, now held by the
authorities of Virginia for alleged violation of the
oyster laws of said State of Virginia.
Endorsed : "Rules suspended, read the third time,
and passed by yeas and nays with proposed amendment,
AMENDMENT FEOPOSED.
Strike out all after the word "that," in line 23, and
insert the following: "The Governor be and he is
hereby authorized, if, in his judgment, he deem it ad-
visable to direct the Attorney-General of Maryland
to appoint and defend William Marsh, a citizen of
Maryland, now held by the authorities of Virginia for
alleged violation of the oyster laws of the State of
Virginia.
