PETITIONS, MEMORIALS AND OTHER PAPERS.
Mr. McSherry presented a petition from Z. James
Gittinger and 69 other citizens of Frederick county,
praying the passage of an Act for the increase of the
efficiency of the public school teachers.
Which was read, and referred to the Committee on
Education.
Mr Fitzgerald submitted the following order, viz:
Ordered, That the Committee on Claims be and
they are hereby directed to pay to Messrs. J. Gideon
Ireland and Emory F. Lane, and to Thomas B. Turner
and to Charles I. Parran and to James A. Gott, Julius
J. Dalrymple and Robert H. Griffith, the sum of
fourteen hundred dollars to the aggregate, for their
counsel fees, witnesses and other expenses to the con-
tested election cases of T. W. Sparklin and Charles
L. Daugherty, for seats in the House of Delegates; of
Nelson B. D. Bird, for the office of Clerk of the Circuit
Court for Calvert county; of James C. Chaney, for the
office of Register of Wills of Calvert county, and of
R. A. Bafford, Walter H. Alton and Samuel L, Gibson,
for the office of Judges of the Orphans' Court of
Calvert county.
Which was considered, and
On motion, made the Order of the Day for Tues-
day, March 29th, at 1 P. M.
Mr. Berret submitted the following order, viz:
Ordered, That the Committee on Claims pay to
Max Ways, Albert Goodman, W. H. Richardson,
Philip Bartols, James P. Bradt, Edward P. Banks,
Jr.. Paul Winchester and J. Edward Abbott, reporters
of the House of Delegates, the sum of one hundred
and fifty dollars ($150) each, for services during the
present session.
Which was read and adopted by yeas and nays, as
follows:
AFFIRMATIVE.—Messrs. Speaker, Garner, Strong,
Brashears, Donaldson, Hutchins, Sappington, of
Anne Arundel, Ireland, Carrico, Maddox, Orrick,
Cole, Elliott, Hamilton, Jr., Monmonier, Schlaffer,

of Dorchester, Miles, Kirk, Beeks, Bowie, of Prince
