House bill entitled an Act to add an additional sec-
tion to Article 27, of the Code of Public General
Laws, entitled "Crimes and Punishments," sub-title
"Embezzlement of Property and Writings." to provide
for the punishment of embezzlement.
Also favorably,
House bill entitled an Act giving the sanction of the
feneral Assembly of Maryland, to the acquisition of
the leasehold interest in a lot of ground in the city of
Baltimore, by the Washington Street Station of the
Methodist Protestant Church of said city.
Which were severally read a first time.

REPORTS OF SELECT COMMITTEES.
Mr. Schlaffer, from the Select Committee, reported
favorably,
House bill entitled an Act to provide for the ap-
poinrment of two Notaries Public, to reside in Cockey-
ville, in the Eighth Election District of Baltimore
county.
Which was read a first time.
JOINT SENATE RESOLUTION.
Mr. Combs, from the Committee on Federal Rela-
tions, reported favorably with proposed amendment,
Senate Joint Resolution relating to the refunding
by the Government of the United States, of the direct
tax due the State of Maryland.
AMENDMENT PROPOSED
Strike out the words "now therefore," at the end
of second whereas on preamble, and insert in lieu
thereof, the word "and."
After the second "whereas or preamble," insert the
following as a third preamble : "Whereas, such Act
contained the following provision, that a part of the
money hereby appropriated shall be paid out by the
Governor of any State or Territory, or any other
person to any attorney or agent under any contract
