CHAPTER 610.
|
|
|
|
AN ACT to incorporate the town of "Solomons" in Cal-
|
|
|
|
vert County.
|
|
|
|
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
|
|
|
|
Maryland, That the citizens of Solomon's Island in Calvert
|

|
County be and they are hereby created a body corporate by
|
corporate
Solomon's

|
the name of the "Commissioners of Solomons" with all
|
Island.

|
|
the powers and privileges of a body politic and corporate,
|
|
|
|
and by said corporate name may have perpetual succession,
|
|
|
|
sue and be sued, plead and be impleaded, in any court of
|
|
|
|
law or equity and may have and use a common seal, and
|
|
|
|
the same amen dor alter at pleasure.
|
|
|
|
SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the corporate limits of
|
|
|
|
said town of "Solomons" shall be those of the entire
|

island known as " Solomon's Island," (situate at or near
|
same.
|
|
|
the mouth of the Patuxent River in Drum Point Harbor
|
|
|
|
and connected with the mainland of Calvert County by a
|
|
|
|
shell road or causeway across mill creek).
|
|
|
|
SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the citizens of said town
|
|
|
|
having resided therein, six months previous to any election
|

who are of the age of twenty-one years or over and who are
|
|
|
|
qualified voters of Calvert County shall on the first Mon-
|
|
|
|
day in May in the year eighteen hundred and ninety- two,
|
|
|
|
or as soon thereafter as conveniently may be elect three
|
|
|
|
commissioners of Solomons, to serve for one year and until
|
|
|
|
their successors shall be elected and qualued ; the commis-
|
|
|
|
sioners must be residents within the corporate limits of
|
|
|
|
Solomons, and have resided therein for at least six months
|
|
|
|
next previous to their election, they must be taxpayers and
|
|
|
|
residents in said town during their term of office, and shall
|
|
|
|
receive no pay for their services.
|
|
|
|
SEC. 4. And be it enacted. That the three commissioners
|
|
|
|
elected shall choose one of their number as president, and
|
|
|
|
all vacancies in said board shall be filled by an election to
|
President.
|
|
|
be held after ten days' notice given by the remaining com-
|
|
|
|
missioners, and the commissioners so elected shall meet at
|
|
|
|
some convenient place in said town on or before the first
|
|
|
|
Monday in June next succeeding their election and as often
|
|
|
|
thereafter as may be necessary to discharge the duties of
|
|
|
|
their office.

|
SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That the commissioners shall
|
|
|
|
in every year on or before the first Monday in April appoint
|
|
|
|
three judges of election, who shall conduct the election
|
