of the peace of said couuty with right of appeal, one-half of
the fine to go to the informer, the other half thereof to the
public schools of the county.

CHAPTER 556.


AN ACT to pay the claim of James M. Monroe, late State's


attorney for Anne Arundel County, for services rendered


the State.


WHEREAS, at the October term of eighteen hundred and


eighty-four, and at the April term of eighteen hundred and


eighty-five, of the Court of Appeals of Maryland, James M.

Preamble.

Monroe, as State's attorney for Anne Arundel County,


argued on behalf of the State, the cases of State vs. Amos


S. Bryant, State vs. George Yewell, and Chesapeake Club


of Annapolis vs. State, for which services the said Monroe


has never received any compensation, which said cases are


reported in 63 Maryland Reports ; and whereas, said Mouroe


by the employment of L. Victor Baughman, Esq., Comp-


troller, has rendered certain services in and about the


collection of State taxes on incorporated institutions for


which said Monroe has never received any compensation;


and whereas, said Monroe has rendered various services to


the State in and about the collection of forfeited recog-


nizances, for which he has received no compensation, and


the sum of twenty four hundred and seven dollars has been


covered into the State treasury from fines and forfeitures in


oyster cases during his term of office.


SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of


Maryland, That the Comptroller be and he is hereby directed

Appro-
priations.

to draw his warrant upon the Treasurer of the State in


favor of James M, Mouroe for the sum of one hundred and


fifty dollars, which sum is hereby appropriated for that


purpose.


SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this act shall take effect

Effective.

from the date of its passage.
