LAWS OF MARYLAND.


CHAPTER 436.


AN ACT to appropriate a sum of mouey to reimburse the


commissioners appointed to erect upon the battlefield of


Gettysburg, monuments to mark the positions occupied


by the Maryland commands that participated in said


battle, the amount expended by them in the prosecution


of the work assigned them over and above the amount


appropriated therefor.


WHEREAS, by the act of the General Assembly of Mary-

land, passed at the January session of eighteen hundred


and eighty-eight, chapter one huudred and eighteen, the


Governor was authorized to appoint commissioners to erect


upon the battlefield of Gettysburg suitable monuments to


mark the position occupied by the Maryland commands


that participated in said battle ; and


WHEREAS, the commissioners appointed under the pro-

visions of said act, did have five monuments erected on said


battlefield and by a supplementary act passed at the Jan-


nary session of eighteen hundred and ninety, chapter four
hundred and thirteen, they were authorized to have one


additional monument erected and to make a full report of


their proceedings to the Governor and have such report


printed, all of which said commissioners have done in a


satisfactory manner, and


WHEREAS, in the prosecution and completion of said

expense of two hundred and seventy -one dollars and forty-


nine cents over and above the amount appropriated therefor


by said acts; therefore,


SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of

appropriated out of any money in the treasury not other-


wise appropriated to pay said commissioners the amount by


them expended over and above the amounts appropriated

for the payment of said amount and which payment shall


be made to Theodore F. Lang, president and Frank Nolen,


secretary of said commissioners.


SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this act shall take
