584 LAWS OF MARYLAND.

day of October, if he desire a license for six months, on or
before the first day of January, if he desire a license for
three months, file an application in writing with the clerk
of the Circuit Court for Carroll Couuty, in which he shall
state : First, the name and residence of the applicant, and
how long he has resided there ; second, that he is a citizen
of the United States, and has been for twelve months next
preceding the filing of such application a bona fide resident
of the State of Maryland, and for three months next pre-
ceding the filing of said application a bona fide resident of
Carroll County ; third, the place of birth of the applicant,
and if a naturalized citizen, where and when he was
naturalized; fourth, the name of the owner of the premises
upon which the business licensed is to be carried on ; fifth,
that the applicant is not, or if the application be by a firm,
that none of the applicants is, in any manner pecuniarily
interested in the profit of any business conducted at any
other place in said county where any spirituous or fermented
liquors are sold or kept for sale ; sixth, the kind of license
desired, whether to sell in quantities not less than a pint, and
not to be drunk on the premises, or by drink, and in
quantities not more than four and nine-tenths gallons ; and
whether for the purpose of opening or keeping an ordinary
or a saloon or restaurant, and if for the purpose of
opening or keeping an ordinary, that he has bona fide,
and without intending to evade the requirements of this
law, provided and expects to maintain six good beds
with sufficient covering therefor, and three rooms more
than sufficient for the private uses of said ordinary
keeper, with stabling and pro vender for five horses at
least; seventh, the particular place where the business
is to be conducted under the license sought, specifying
the same by definite designation and description; eighth,
that no person except the applicant or applicants is in
any manner pecuniarily interested in the business to
be licensed, and that uo other person shall be in any
manner pecuniarily interested therein during the contin--
uance of the license asked for; ninth, that the applicants
have not, nor has any of them had a license for the sale of
intoxicating or spirituous or fermented liquors in this State
revoked, nor have they or any of them been convicted of
any crime within two years preceding the filing of said
petition; and which said application shall be verified by
the affidavit of the applicant, made before the clerk of the
court to whom the application is made ; and if any false
statement is made in any part of said application, the
applicant or applicants shall be deemed guilty of perjury,
and upon indictment and conviction shall be punished
