collecting the same to the clerk and treasurer of said town ;


provided, that if the offence be a breach of the peace or dis-


turbing the good order of the town, or in violation of any of


the ordinances intended to secure the safety of the lives or


property of any of the inhabitants of said town, or licensing


traveling showmen or exhibitors, the person so convicted


may be committed to the jail of Carroll County, or to some


place of confinement provided within the corporate limits of


said town, by said mayor or justice of the peace, until the


fine and costs are paid, or for ten days, which ever shall first


occur ; and the mayor or justice of the peace who committed


such offender may, when it seems proper to him, order such


offender to be discharged before the expiration of ten days;


and the sheriff of said county shall be entitled to be paid by


said corporation the same fees as he receives for keeping


prisoners under the laws of the State ; no fine imposed upon


any offender shall be less than one dollar nor more than ten


dollars ; and any person convicted under the provisions of


this sub-title of this article, or the laws and ordinances of


the town shall have the right to appeal to the Circuit Court


for Carroll County in the same manner as appeals are now


taken under in the general laws of this State.

CHAPTER 422.


AN ACT authorizing the transcribing of certain indexes of


records and will-books in the office of Register of Wills


for Washington County, Maryland.


SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of


Maryland, That the Register of Wills for Washington

Transcribe

County, Maryland, be and he is hereby required to transcribe

indexes.

as many of the indexes in the office of the Register of Wills


for said county into a new book or books well-bound for


that purpose, as may now be worn out or rendered inefficient


from continued use ; and also remodel the entire general


index of wills and administrations and guardian accounts ;


and that he also fill and supply any vacancy which may


now exist in such general indexes.
