or repairing any street, sidewalk or alley in said town ; and


may condemn or purchase the right of way for any street or


alley which they may determine should be opened for the


public good ; for the preservation of property, rights and


privileges ; for the regulation of sales in the streets, alleys


or public places in said town ; for the weighing of hay, coal


and other property ; for the suppression of vice and immo-


rality; for the suppression of concealed weapons; for sup-


pressing the practice of discharging fire-arms, fire-crackers,


torpedoes or other explosives ; for the prevention of gam-


bling; for licensing of theatricals or other public amuse-


ments ; to suppress tramps ; for lighting the streets ; for


preventing swine, cattle, dogs or other animals from running


at large on the streets ; for imposing a tax on dogs ; for


location of hog pens; and the town council shall have


full power and authority to pass all such ordinances as may


be necessary to carry out and to give full force and effect to


the powers conferred upon said corporation by law.


185. Whenever it shall in the judgment of the town
