own line of railway in the said District ; provided, however,

CHAPTER 35.


AN ACT to make valid and amend the charter of the Port


Deposit Electric Light Company of Cecil County.


WHEREAS, It satisfactorily appears to this General As-


sembly that Jacob Tome, Robert E. McClauahan, Robert C.


Hopkins, Enoch McCullongh aud Samuel C. Rowland, all of


them citizens of the United States, and of the State of Mary-


land, aud all residents in Cecil County, in said State, did


on the fourteenth day of June, in the year eighteen bun-

dred and eighty -eight, execute aud acknowledge a certifi-


cate of incorporation, in writing, iu accordance with the


provisions of section forty-two, of article twenty-three, of


the Code of Public General Laws, thereby intending to


create a corporation of the State of Maryland, for the pur-


pose of constructing and maintain ing in Port Deposit, iu said


county, appliances for the introduction into said town of

electric lights, with the corporate name of the Port Deposit

Light Co

Electric Light Company of Cecil County, which said cer-


tificate of incorporation was approved by the judge of the


Circuit Court for Cecil County, and duly recorded, as


required by law.


AND WHEREAS, said company proceeded to acquire prop-


erty, to put up buildings and machinery, and poles, fitted

with wires to carry out said purpose, but doubts have


been expressed Arhether any Electric Light Company,
formed under the provisions of the Code of Public General


Laws of this State has authority to carry on its operations,


except in the comities of Kent, Talbot, Somerset and Carroll,


until said Company has been made valid by the Legisla-
