to whom he may pay such compensation as he may deem


proper to be deducted from his salary, and said treasurer


shall receive in addition to the compensation now paid him


the further sum of eight hundred dollars annually for the


new duties imposed upon him by this law and the further


sum of twenty-five cents for each person's property assessed


by him, and after the expiration of the term of office of the


present treasurer of Caroline Connty, the annual salary of


said treasurer shall be eighteen hundred dollars.


68 B. It shall be the duty of the treasurer each year, as

county commissioners at their first regular meeting in each


month the amount of taxes, State and county separately


collected by him up to the date of such report, and the


amount of disbursements made, and the balance in hand ;

credit in bank and the money deposited to the treasurer of


Caroline County shall only be drawn out upon his check,


countersigned by the president of the board of county com-


missioners in payment of debts and accounts due by said


county, duly approved and passed by said county commis-


sioners and by them ordered to be paid ; and any taxpayer


having a sum of money levied to his or her use or a debt


against the county, passed by the county commissioners, shall


only be entitled to have the same paid after he has paid the


State and county taxes levied upon his or her property, and


is not indebted in anywise therefor.


68 C. On the first day of January in each year, taxes
