three hundred and five of the acts of eighteen hundred and


ninety shall be issued to the extent of the appropriation in


the first section of this act, but to said extent the indebted-


ness of the State shall be extinguished and duly cancelled


and destroyed,


SEC. 3. And be it enacted. That the sum of one hun-

dred and sixty-eight thousand, six hundred and fifty-four

fund

dollars' and twelve cents, being the balance of said sum


received of the United States aforesaid, and not hereinbe-


fore appropriated, be and the same is hereby appropriated


to the general sinking fund, and the comptroller and treas-


urer are hereby directed and required to cause the same to


be so invested for the said general sinking fund and duly


credited to same.


SEC. 4. And be it enacted. That this act shall effect

CHAPTER 98.


AN ACT to repeal chapter four hundred and eighty-five of


the act passed at January session eighteen hundred and


ninety of the General Assembly of Maryland, entitled an


act to repeal and re-enact chapter one hundred and fifty-


two of the acts passed at January session, eighteen hun-


dred and seventy-eight, entitled an act to repeal chapter


four hundred and twenty -nine of the acts passed at Janu-


ary session eighteen hundred and seventy -four, entitled


an act to incorporate a company to construct a turnpike


road from Hagerstown, in Washington County, to the


town of Sharpsburg, passed at January session, eighteen


hundred and fifty -three, chapter one hundred and twenty-


nine, and re-enact said sections with amendments.


SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of


Maryland, That chapter four hundred and eighty-five of


the acts of the General Assembly of Maryland, passed at

the same is hereby repealed and re-enacted so as to read


as follows :
