SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the county commissioners of

CHAPTER 330.


AN ACT to repeal and re-enact with amendments sections one


hundred and eighty-nine, one hundred and ninety-four, one


hundred aud ninety-six, one hundred and ninety-nine, two


hundred and three, and two hundred and ten, of article three,


of the Code of Public Local Laws, title " Baltimore county,"


sub-title "Roads."


SECTION 1. Be it enacted Ly the General Assembly of Maryland,

ninety-four, one hundred and ninety-six, one hundred and ninety-


nine, two hundred and three, aud two hundred and ten, of article


three, of the Code of Public Local Laws, title "Baltimore county,"


sub-title "Roads," be and the same are hereby repealed and re-


enacted so as to read as follows, viz :


SEC. 189. That the road commissioners appointed for the sev-


eral election districts of said county as above provided are re-


quired to adopt such system for the repair and improvement of


the roads in their respective districts as they may deem suitable,


subject to the direction and approval of the county commissioners ;


and the county commissioners shall have full power to require all


work to be done in the repair and improvement of the roads by


contract so far as practicable, and they shall adopt all necessary

rules and regulations for letting out all such work to the lowest


responsible bidders and allotting the repair of the roads in sec-


tions to farmers or others most interested in keeping the same in


repair, and whether the repairs of the roads be let out by con-


tract or allotted, such contracts for the work to be done shall be


made in writing ahd subject to the approval of the county com-


missioners; no road commissioners shall have any pecuniary in-


terest in any contract made in connection with the repairs or im-


provements of the roads or bridges, nor shall he work any of his


teams or hands otherwise employed by him on the roads unless


by special direction of the county commissioners, such direction


to be in writing and to be given only in the event of a failure to


put out the repair of the roads upon contract or allotment as
