devise or any other mode, land and property, both real and per-
sonal, for the purpose of supporting such scholarships, professor-
|
|
|
|
ships, lectureships and chairs, and for the purpose of investing
|
|
|
|
the funds of said corporation and carrying on its educational
|
|
|
|
work and plans.
|
|
|
|
SEC. 6. And be it enacted, That the said corporation shall have
|
|
|
|
the power to elect by ballot corporators or members of said cor-
|
|
|
|
poration and so to keep up the membership thereof to a number
|
|
|
|
not exceeding forty-five, all new members so elected to be ap-
|
|
|

copal church at the annual session of said conference next suc-
|
|
|
|
ceeding such election, and the election of any member who shall
|
|
|
|
not be so approved shall be void, and at the annual meeting of
|

said corporation to be held in November, eighteen hundred and
|
|
|
|
ninety, all members of said corporation including those then
|
|
|
|
elected shall be divided by lot into five classes of equal number,
|
|
|
|
and the term of membership of the first class shall terminate in
|
|
|
|
one year, of the second class in two years, of the third class in
|
|
|
|
three years, of the fourth class in four years, and of the fifth
|
|
|
|
class in five years from the date of such annual meeting, and the
|
|
|
|
term of membership of each member elected after the annual
|
|
|

years unless elected to fill a vacancy caused by the death, resig-
|
|
|
|
nation or removal of a member before the expiration of the term
|
|
|
|
for which elected, or caused by a failure to elect or the failure of

said conference to approve of an election, in which case such
|
|
|
|
newly elected member shall hold membership only for the balance
|
|
|
|
of the full term to fill which he may be elected, and all members.

shall be eligible for re-election at the expiration of their respective
|
|
|
|
terms.

SEC. 7. And be it enacted, That the annual meeting of said
|

|

and that eleven members shall constitute a quorum f or the trans-
|
|
|
|
action of business, but a less number may adjourn and fix the
|
|
|
|
time for another meeting.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That this act shall take effect from
|
|
|
|
the date of its passage.
