CHAPTER 63.


AN ACT to punish the sale or other disposition of


intoxicating liquors on or near the graded road


leading from the Western Maryland railroad to


High Bock, in Washington county.


WHEREAS it is represented to the General Assem-


bly of Maryland that places of public resort, known


as Penmar Park and High Eock, have been estab-


lished in Washington county, near Penmar station,

numbers of persons from this and other States resort


thither for pleasure and recreation, including many


women and children; now, therefore,


SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assem-


bly of Maryland, That it shall not be lawful for the


keeper of any hotel, tavern, store, drinking estab-

lishment or any other place where liquors are sold

directly or indirectly, to sell, barter or give, or dis-


pose of any spirituous or fermented liquors, ale or


beer, or intoxicating drinks of any kind upon the


graded road leading from the Western Maryland


railroad to High Rock, or at any place in this State


within one-quarter of a mile from any part of said


graded road between said railroad and High Rock,


or within one-quarter of a mile of any buildings at


High Rock or at Penmar station, or to place or dis-


tribute any signs, cards or other devices inviting to


the purchase of such liquors, ale, beer or intoxicat-


ing drinks, or to solicit the purchase of the same


within the limits of the one-quarter of a mile afore-


said.


SEC. 2. Any persons violating the provisions of


the preceding section shall be liable to indictment


by the Grand Jury of Washington county, and shall,
upon conviction before the Circuit Court for Wash-

more than one hundred dollars for each and every


offence ; one-half of the fine shall be paid to the in-
