CHAPTER 350.


AN ACT to provide for a public ferry across the


Potomac river at Hancock, in Washington county.


SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assem-


bly of Maryland, That the County Commissioners


of Washington county be and they are hereby au-


thorized to examine and locate a suitable place to


construct a public ferry across the Potomac river,

keep in order the public road leading from Hancock


to said river, or to lay out, open and construct a


new road, and to connect the same by means of the


said ferry with the public road leading from said


river on the West Virginia side to the Hancock


station on the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad.


SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the said county


commissioners are hereby granted full power to con-
struct the said ferry, with suitable boat and necess-


ary appurtenances, and to assess all damages for


land or franchise necessary for the establishment of


said ferry, if any be needed more than the said


county now has, and in case the owner or owners of


said land or franchise shall not agree to receive the

commissioners to issue a warrant to the sheriff of


said county to summon twelve respectable, disin-


terested persons, qualified by law to be jurors, and


also the surveyor of the county, to meet on the


premises on a day by him to be appointed, of which


he shall give due notice to the owner or possessor


of said land or franchise.


SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That the said


jurors and survey or, having first taken an oath or affir-
mation justly and impartially to value the said land or
