SEC. 2. Be it enacted by the General Assembly


of Maryland, That the sale and transfer by the


Union Bridge Turnpike Company of all that part


of their road from Union Bridge, in Carroll county,


to Daniel Wolfe's, in Frederick county, and of all


their rights, franchises and privileges in their road
from Union Bridge, in Carroll county, to Johnsville,


in Frederick county, to the Liberty and Pipe Creek


Turnpike Road Company, and that all acts done

Acts made

in pursuance of such sale and transfer be and the

valid.

same are hereby made valid, and that the property


in said road, and the franchises of the said Union


Bridge Turnpike Company, be and the same are


hereby vested in the Liberty and Pipe Creek


Turnpike Road Company as fully and to the same


extent as the same were conferred upon the Bald


Union Bridge Turnpike Company.


SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the said Liberty


and Pipe Creek Turnpike Company are hereby au-


thorized to erect gates and charge and take toll on


the said part of said turnpike road so transferred,


as allowed by law to the said Union Bridge Turn-


pike Company ; and the said company are hereby
vested with all the powers and charged with the

same duties relative to the said part of said road


from Union Bridge, in Carroll county, to Johnsville,


in Frederick county, as were granted to and re-
quired from the said Union Bridge Turnpike Com-


pany by their charter.


SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That the said Liberty
and Pipe Creek Turnpike Road Company be and is

hereby further authorized and empowered, as to the

whole extent of their road from Union Bridge, in


Carroll coanty, to Liberty town, in Frederick coun-


ty, to assess annually upon each individual or per-


son habitually using their said road between the


toll gates thereof, and not passing or going through


any of such toll gates, such amount, to be paid quar-


terly by the individual or person so assessed, as shall


be just and reasonable for such use of said road, and


shall have power to collect the same before any


justice of the peace of the county in which such in-


dividual may reside or do business, on an action of


debt ; provided that such assessment shall only be
