2. He shall also before he acts as such give bond to the
State of Maryland in the penalty of twenty-five thousand
dollars with security to be approved by two judges of the
orphans' court or the judge of the circuit court for his county
if he be elected for a county, or any two judges of the orphans'
court of Baltimore city, or the judge of the superior court of
Baltimore city if he be elected for said city, with the condition
that he shall well and faithfully execute the office of sheriff of
———— county or the city of Baltimore, in all things apper-
taining thereto, and shall well and truly perform all the duties
required by law to be by him performed; provided that the
sheriffs elected for Harford and Calvert counties shall be
required to give bonds in the penalty of ten thousand dollars
and for no greater sum.

4. If any sheriff in office prior to the first day of any Jan-
uary next preceding shall fail to give and offer for record the
bond required in the preceding section within ninety days
after the said first day of January, it shall be the duty of the
clerks of the circuit courts for the respective counties or of the
clerk of the superior court of Baltimore city, as the case may
be, to give notice forthwith of such failure to the governor of
the State, whose duty it shall be at once to require the attorney
