IMMIGRATION.

Bureau of Immigration.

1. Bureau of immigration estab-
lished.

Bureau of Immigration.

1696, ch. 295, sec. 2.

1. There is hereby established within and for the State of
Maryland a bureau of immigration to encourage immigration
to this State.

Ibid. sec. 3.

2. There shall be appointed by the governor, by and with
the advice and consent of the senate, once in every two years,
a board of immigration commissioners, composed of three
members, one of whom shall be president of the board, and
one of whom shall be State superintendent of immigra-
tion, and shall be so designated in his appointment; the
said commissioners shall be appointed for a term of two years,
and until their successors are duly qualified; the State super-
intendent shall receive a salary of two thousand dollars per
annum, payable quarterly, upon the warrant of the comptroller,
and the other two commissioners shall serve without compen-
sation, except for the actual expenses in attending the meetings
of the board.
